Go /p/ro:
• Please post images that are JPG format and ideally smaller than 1 MB, and/or about 1000 pixels on the longest side.
• Expect to be judged harshly. Learn to deal with it.

Want:
• We come here for photos, so post yours as often as possible, even if "image unrelated" to your text.
• "Flickr/500px/Tumblr/Facebook/Portfolio" threads are for critique and networking.
• Use "Recent Photos" threads if you are shy or only want to post a couple of photos.
• Shared raw files which we can collectively edit for discussion of post-processing techniques, are encouraged.
• Use the Catalog to consolidate similar topics (photographic themes, images or technical gear threads).

Do not want:
• Go to /wsr/ or /r/ for specific Photoshop requests.
• Gear threads are discouraged, but identified as necessary. Many users simply hide these threads.

>pic related

Got it in 2004 for my birthday. Dad spent $400 on this sucker plus the 256-512MB memory cards. It was awesome with the 4x optical zoom and fit in the back seat compartment of my motorcycle so I took it everywhere and got some great pictures. Sensor died not even three years later so my only complaint.

I’ll have to grab a few shots from my computer later, but looking back at some of the pics I’m still impressed with the quality of this little guy. They sometimes have that “DSLR” look instead of the processed iPhone camera look.

Ahem ackshually it has no mirror there is no reflex on this camera, it uses a beam splitting prism more akin to what we saw with Sony’s SLT cameras. It having ttl viewing doesn’t automatically make it reflex, chud, educate yourself.

so you lose a stop of light at the sensor and have a dim viewfinder image instead of having a flipping mirror. Nice!

I just do Year > Event Name, and then also have Q1-Q4 for misc snapshots.
I only browse / view the folders through C1, and just use C1 filtering as needed for searching by date or camera or lens. Switching from individual sessions from a few larger catalogs has been great. All exports go to the Output folder of the relevant session.

LOOKS TO ME LIKE THEY JUST KEEP THE SHUTTER OPEN TOO LONG AND PRODUCE A SHITTY IMAGE. YOU CAN ALSO PLAY WITH COLOR BALANCE SETTINGS IN YOUR CAMERA, WHICH IS LIKELY WHY THEY CLAIM TO HAVE SATURATED SOME COLORS AND NOT OTHERS. listen you tard, as i said earlier all the compacts are too fucking tiny for my taste.
I got rid off the lumix lx7, s95, rx100 and probably many others.
Most of the times it's in my pocket and i take snapshots while walking.
As for the price; these cameras were 40-60€ each just last year. now they're around 150-200€
Knowing that it is unfortunate somehow. It doesn't matter if you can afford or not. But atleast i found one nearly mint conditions for 90€

panasonic 100-400mm (200-800mm FF equiv)
used to have olympus 75-300mm (150-600mm FF equiv)

>>4307313
you want 600mm, anything more is unnecessary and barely noticeable, anything less and you'd wish you had more

there is a point of diminishing returns
the difference between 100 and 300mm is huge, but the difference between 600mm and 800mm is like a tiny pinch inwards

i only upgraded from 600mm because the lens had no stabilization and the competing lenses at that focal length weren't as sharp, it was otherwise adequate
>>
>>4307417
going from 600 to 800 is equivalent to the change in fov from 100 to 133. It's just a ratio. so yes, it's not a huge difference compared to 100 - 300 like you mentioned, that would need to be 600-1800

PS. In the Ron Howard film Apollo 13, you can see them throwing cameras Down the Hatch to put into the Command Module for reentry when the trying to balance off the weight difference from the lack of moon rocks. Ron was lucky enough to partner with somebody who knew where he could get these cameras from private collectors myself included. I didn't get to instruct the actors on how to use these cameras, the other person did who had more in it. Unfortunately when they were doing filming on board the vomit Comet for these scenes, they tossed the lens across the Gap too quickly in the mock-up, and the guy missed it and hit the wall and damaged it. One lens that NASA wanted, but they didn't get in time was the 105 F 4.3 UV Sonnar. By the time that was available, they'd already gotten a workaround lens from another company and adapted it.

It's a nationwide hobby project, not the military. Their funding is justified different.
>military: spend as little money as possible, but also wantonly waste money on bullshit R&D and even flying tires back and forth to use more gas to show that you need your budget
>NASA: gimme five million dollars i want a cooler rocket
So they actually did buy the best camera they could afford. I'm sure a hasselblad SLR was available at the time but apparently their build quality's gone to shit over the years, so say hasselblad users.

>negative film ages better than positive
>black and white better than color
>slow films better than fast
>storage conditions (dry/cool) matter more than years
>Negative film is shot 1 or 2 stops overexposed and then PULLED in development so that you build more density in the exposure and develop less such that the fog is limited

Finally... My 47mm 4x5 shots have been scanned. I have some learning to do with the new camera. I think the lens doesn't actually cover the full 4x5, or maybe just at f22. Projection gets larger with smaller aperture, right??

Anyways.. I prefer the look of my older 65mm super angulon, but this one is still pretty sweet, and I love the form factor of the camera. Now that I have my test shots out of the way I can really start snapshitting.

Bummer. Sounds like the more technically demanding nature of a view camera would slow you down too much as well. Maybe one day...
>>
>>4307443
>slow you down
im fine slowing down, like my fuji 690 slows me down quite a bit. but i really, really hate logistics and just worrying about "stuff" (probably autism or something). my dream day would be 1 camera (wrist strap only) and a couple of rolls in my pocket, most comfortable clothes. no backpack and not having to worry about food/water and just shoot for hours. so having to worry about a tripod, the camera, adding on the lens, dark slides and putting all the film in before hand, loupe, dark bag, all the setting up and down. ugh

What is a good one? I've had this case for damn near 20 years and I don't see a reason to upgrade. It's vintage, and chicks dig it.

Messenger — you can open it and access gear while wearing it securely. Backpacks you generally have to take off to access. I’d rather have a backpack on a hike though. Depends on your use case.

I've had this trooper bag from Wotancraft for 5 years.
I go to some sketchy places so it's nice to have something that doesn't scream camera bag but I can still pull my camera out of pretty quickly. The only thing I wish it had was tripod straps.
But looking at their current catalog though the prices have really jumped up and they look to be aiming it being a fashion brand. Shame.

Before I just put soft inserts into normal bags, which is about as stealth that you can get.

Affinity Design is way ahead of InDesign. Other than that, for photography, I didn't touch Affinity Photo. I don't have the reosurces to adapt a different workflow that I am used to for a decade yet. Just buy the suite, it's literally no money.

Oh you’re a schizo boomer, neat. Tell us all again about microcontrast and 3dpop and how curiously such things aren’t objectively measurable but somehow still valid. Please, go on.

Microcontrast is real, it's strictly defined on the MTF chart as contrast at higher spatial frequencies.

3d pop is a mix of perspective distortion, CA, vignetting, spherical aberration and field curvature so you get the most by using a mediocre 35-45mm lens.

Is a nifty fifty necessary and a good second lens? Good telephotos have priced me out so that leaves something like pic related that is remote reasonably priced but has a function kit lenses don’t.

I feel weird for always finding 50 a little too tight.
>>

This is why everyone is into 40 and 35 these days. I've walked around all day with a 120mm equivalent prime and been happy personally. With ISO performance there's little reason not to just use a standard zoom f/4 though.

>>4307407
>With ISO performance there's little reason not to just use a standard zoom f/4 though.
I'm not one to shit on f/4 zooms, but 2+ stops better noise performance is far from nothing especially when it's really dark and you get into the extreme ISOs. Also depth of field, 2/3 of a stop going from f/1.8 to f/1.4 doesn't matter to many people never mind 1/3 of a stop from f/1.4 to f/1.2 yet some people will pay the money and take the extra weight for the shallower depth of field. f/4 to even an f/2 prime is a pretty big difference.
>>
>>4307407
ISO performance has not changed for shit since 2013. every camera still looks like shit over ISO 1600 tops. MFT is already going to shit at ISO 400.
