basically this. I don't use the active style trap like in the picture unless it's a rare bird really need to trap. Typically I use a trap that's made of mesh, and it has a hole in the bottom, they fly in to feed, but when they're done feeding they tend to fly up and get stuck. They can sometimes fly out, but there are so many it's not an issue. There is a slot in the back I can reach in to grab them and then take them back to the station for processing.

ofc I always have a cuppa when banding.

>A new week that starts well, and turns confidently towards the near future of my initiatives. Projects very often have a long genesis, made up of studies, hypotheses, estimates, discussions, and even dreams. Sometimes dreams are the substance of the things we are going to achieve, when they are not abstruse and beyond our real possibilities. Disappointment often arises from wanting to overcome these limits, achieving nothing, and rather wasting time and money. The dream of a possible change is achievable, provided, of course, that you want it. Otherwise we are at the same level as utopias, sighs and regrets. But today is not that time… the flames are rising…

Its a blendy high fines italian espresso burr in a slick little single dosing build. Beans go in, grinds come out, lid to keep any popcorning off your counter. If you're brewing medium+ roasts into milk its not a bad option. High body, high texture shots to cut through milk. If you're brewing lighter roast straight espresso or mainly filter I'd consider something else.

Thanks for the insight anon. Hearing that NK's filter coffee is mediocre was also a concern for me. Maybe I'll look into something like a Lagom Mini if the filter results don't satisfy me down the line.
For now I just want to keep things simple and try out different basic brewers like french press, moka pot, and filter setups before diving into an espresso setup. Once I have a good grasp of non-espresso techniques, I'll consider investing in a beginner machine that can pull decent shots.
>>
idk bros. I think the small moka pots make better coffee. the bigger one tastes more like, just regular ass drip coffee and filling it all the way up extracts some weird flavors. I've been doing 20g of coffee in a "6 cup" and that's about the limit.
>>
>>20498138
Just buy a handgrinder for filter, it's not that hard. Something like the zp6
>>
>>20498138
Lagom mini is cool. The guy who made that chart really likes the dm47 with kinu pourover burrs(top right). You could snag one open box for $160 and toss in the $40 upgrade later and still have $500 to put towards something like a bambino, gaggia, or flair.

>>
>>20498175
Thanks, a quality handgrinder does seem like a good affordable option for pourover/filter. I'll check out the zp6. Appreciate the tip!
>>20498186
Lagom Mini looks interesting for sure. Open box + burr upgrade is a smart budget route too, and leaves room for a starter espresso machine later on. Cool find, thanks for the specifics!

Hi guys,

I've had a Blitzwolf BW-CMM2 espresso machine for some time now (pic related). As for the machine itself, I have nothing to point out, of course it is in the low-end range, having costed me €60, but it produces coffee at a good enough level for me. The problem is the "appendices": The portafilter has a plastic part underneath the basket whose screw that connects it to the portafilter has become loose and is therefore always coming out, the handle of it already has some play, the part that lifts up to hold the basket while beating to remove the grounds has already broken, and the baskets are pressurized.

I would therefore like to make these two upgrades: A new handle that is better built and with two spouts, and two non-pressurized baskets - one normal and one double. I would also like the new portafilter to be compatible with the old baskets, for times when I use pre-ground coffee.

The problem is not knowing how, and where, to look for this, mainly because I don't know exactly what the dimensions of the baskets and handle are: Do you measure the inner or outer diameter? Does the "rim" of the basket count? Does the number and size of the handle protuberances matter, or is it standardized?

Stop listening to all the faggot ass retards who like their coffee as fruity as them. Just get a higher end drip machine like the Moccamaster and some medium-dark beans and you will have coffee that reminds you of American goff but is actually delicious. If you want it to be even more accurate then yeah I guess you could get a cheaper machine and/or use a darker roast. As long as you avoid very dense beans then you’ll get plenty of body in your brews even through a paper filter.

What in the fuck is American coffee? Are you talking specifically about diner coffee? Buy literally any grocery store preground, brew it hot, and leave it on a hot plate to oxidize for hours.
>>
>>20502579
What do you think it is retard? Stereotypical American coffee, infamous for being low tier and common in America. It's extremely uncommon in Australia to have American coffee makers at all.

https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=diner+coffee
https://sf.eater.com/23753360/diner-coffee-commodity-robusta-history
>At Beth’s and most American diners, the odds are high that the coffee comes from a vacuum-sealed tub stashed behind the bar. It’s the kind of commodity coffee processed in a big factory where the folks on the floor — and, for that matter, back at the farm where the beans were grown — may or may not get fair pay. Still, at diners and casual restaurants all across the United States, it’s bottomless carafes of the stuff that keep truckers, journeymen, service staff, and, frankly, anyone looking for a zip of strength chugging along. And at an affordable price.

>For me its burnt commodity grade

Today we celebrate "nine years of Bongiovanni", while I prepare some coffee to take to Assaporando, this Sunday at @poderefrancesco.

We know that time flies by now, especially when you live following projects and missions of a certain importance.

Even if all this will soon be reshuffled with intensity, and will give life to a new modus operandi and vivendi, I certainly cannot forget all the significant moments - even the less pleasant ones - that have characterized this period. I am also certain that many drops of these then gave rise to the new spark, and the associated changes.

After all, nothing is created or destroyed, but is transformed. Physics teaches us this, and partly also the heart...

>false burr
>blade grinder
If you have to buy one of these, buy the blade grinder (second link). I have that false burr grinder, so I speak from experience. They're incredibly loud and ridiculously messy. High retention and difficult to clean. By comparison, blade grinders are less noisy, retain less fines, and are easier to clean. Both grinders will produce an extremely wide particle size distribution, which is not desirable, but the blade grinder can still be useful as a spice grinder once you upgrade to a proper burr grinder.

I have made a lot of research before about the subject yet no information online seems to be satisfying neither even relevant to the problem I have in hand.

You see, when I make coffee, I use already ground coffee, put it in my moka pot like picrel, and wait until it gently rises. In the process I can smell the good aromas slowly taking over, especially when in the start of the rising process. Yet towards the last bit, the odor seems to change all of a sudden. The alteration is not necessarily negative but I prefer the original smell it has.

Does anyone have a clue why? This has been going on regardless of what type of coffee I use. Is it because I am kinda burning it? If so, what is the ideal temperature for moka-coffee-making?
>>
>>20506478
This is just the used up coffee.
I'm brewing our coffee in a Bialetti 3 cup size and towards the end, the coffee that comes out gets lighter and lighter until only water comes out. You should stop the brewing the very moment the the brew becomes lighter in color.
To do that, it's best to have a pot of cold water at hand so you can put the moka pot in it to instantly stop the brewing process.

Also, brewing your moka with an electro plate that has a stepless adjustment knob does also help. This way, you can fine adjust to the heat needed to slowly brew the coffe. It may take a little longer but you get rewarded with a more tasty coffee.

I am honoured for real.
I will celebrate with some Maracaibo Clasificado 65%. Gold medal for the best couverture chocolate in the world not to mention it (notice the sticker).

>The harmonious combination of coffee and plum aromas enhances the distinct cacao flavour. The traditional, gentle processing method unfolds the aromas of orange blossom and cinnamon. These lend a festive character to Maracaibo Clasificado 65 %, which is further enhanced by the final sensation of a light, sweet raisin bouquet.

God bless!

What kind of pour technique are you using? You know, number of pours, turbulent vs laminar flow. Also, what kind of flavors are you chasing exactly?
A higher dose means a taller, deeper bed that can take longer for water to flow through, especially if it's not sufficiently agitated. In my experience, that lengthened draw down can bring out more roasty notes that hide origin characteristics--that is, fruity, sweet flavors. Does that sound like your experience?

Current recipe.
45g; initial bloom is 150g for 2 min, then i'll do another 150g over 15 seconds, Quick stir with a small spoon; then repeat til I'm at 750g total of water. After last pour I'll do a quick swirl to flatten the bed of my grounds. Total time including bloom is 4:45-5:10.

As far as agitate my brew with a spoon instead of turbulance of my pour, I've realized that there isn't enough turbulance to agitate the bed of my coffee, so a quick swirl does a much better job.

One of the biggest difference I know from the bigger batch compared to single brews is the lack of "floral and fruity" aroma note in my bigger batches. I still get a pretty full bodied roast taste in my bigger batch brew. I've noticed if I try a faster brew time with a coarser grind, it is becomes under brewed with a significant unpleasant sourness to it. If I overbrew, with a brewtime of >6min, it becomes significantly muted or bitter in taste.
>>
>>20508430
>Quick stir with a small spoon; then repeat til I'm at 750g total of water.
Are you saying that you stir after every single pour?
I would recommend trying to lower your brew time by using fewer total pours or (if you feel like buying something) thinner or more porous papers, rather than changing your grind size.
The deeper bed of a larger dose is also more prone to channeling and uneven extraction if you aren't sure to wet the grounds thoroughly and evenly during the bloom, especially with fresher or otherwise gassier coffees. I prevent this by rather aggressively excavating and stirring the bed with a small spoon as soon I'm finished pouring the bloom, and I recommend you try it. Additionally, overswirling your coffee can cause stalling, so just don't overdo that. I know, it's subjective. Just use your best discretion.

What's the ideal flow rate for a moka pot? I've got an aluminum moka pot and a steel plate on an induction stove and I'm wondering what would be a good flow rate for most beans. I've gotten ok results with preheating the plate on medium heat for rapid shots which give clarity but less body and tend to underextract and ok results too when starting the plate cold and using medium-high heat for slower shots and more body/intensity and tend to overextract. I always start with boiling water and have an e&b filter. Around 15g of coffee on a 3cup moka pot, I level with a knife and don't tamp/shake. I grind around 70 on a k6 with medium roast beans.
>>
after making con panna a couple times I have concluded it's just too rich for me.
>>
>>20510083
I find darker roasts generally taste better out of the moka with a slightly coarser grind and faster flow, and the reverse with light roasts, but you should be open to dialing in any new beans you get, which really means willing to accept that you might make a less than palatable cup in the process.
If I'm not sure what will taste better, I usually start at 60 clicks on my k6, a kind of medium-low heat on my gas hob, and a trimmed filter beneath the bed and iterate from there. Make sure to take notes if you aren't already.
Right now, I'm sipping on a single-dose blend I made of Guatemalan robusta, Ethiopian dry, Guatemalan washed and a red honey from Costa Rica. I used the process described and it came out delicious.
>>
>>20510706
I'm only at 70 since im using relatively cheap semi specialty beans from a supermarket(got some notes, not burnt to shit), I start at 60 for proper specialty beans. I got a bunch of aeropress filters from a friend but seems like such a hassle to trim and use. Maybe for some light roast that might need them.

How much time on average from heat to flowing do you get?
>>
>>20510981
It really isn't that much of a hassle in my opinion, and it helps ensure even extraction, which I think is well worth it. It takes like ten seconds to fold and trim a filter.
I don't time my brews (though I probably should) but it's generally no more than ninety seconds from heat to flow. Probably closer to sixty for darker roasts.

>1. Zero Tracking is a function for automatically maintaining the zero indication within certain limits.
>2. Off: It is not recommended to turn off Zero Tracking because the zero indication can drift easily as the room temperature changes.
>3. 0.5 d~3 d: For example, for standard resolution each division is 0.1 g, 3 d = 0.3 g. When Zero

I'm in the midwest. I do public demonstrations and a lot of other bander sdo too if she wants to see them in person.

For the feeder, on some styles, if it rains a lot it will dilute your water, but that's typically after a hard long rain. The bigger thing to watch out for is when the solution gets cloudy; when that happens it's time to replace it. If mold starts to grow it can infect the birds and some types will kill them because it causes their bills to swell and they can't eat.

The redditor got all wrong lmao, 1:17 ration will have more extraction, meaning more caffeine, darker roasts have more caffeine than light roasts for the same weight (since darker roasts have a lesser density, it needs more beans to hit a certain weight)
He got the soyence wrong

>Monsoon Malabar
Felt like a decaf even though it wasn't. I think the monsoon washing process washed out all the origin characteristics. All I could taste were the roasty notes. It was medium roast.
Seriously, it was like a blank slate on which to display the roast quality.

>Royale Robusta
Never tried it.
