I myself am also a webshitter SWE and I kinda regret going into web instead of ML now
I also studied math but haven't touched any of that shit since graduating, so going through the Khan Academy stuff was like a blast from the past. I even took a machine learning class but remember nothing due to never using it as a webshitter so the entire Andrew Ng class also felt weird. I'm not sure if I should just dive in and try to fuck around on huggingface or keep on the machine learning roadmap rentry list

Yes and no. The higher cyber security management jobs typically require CISM/CISSP according to the 8570 baseline certifications.

While true, if you ever have a position where you need to be able to help someone using a windows OS (i.e. helping establish application/network/security configurations) then it's useful information. I'm not defending windows as an Operating system, but my point is that it's the dominant OS in the business world and that means knowing how to fix the system when Julie from payroll clicks that phishing link for a free hair salon coupon is part of the skill-set you need to hold down the job.

CISSP only has a high median salary on surveys because it requires 5 years in industry to not be an associate CISSP, so really you're asking "is 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity really the ticket to $100k?"
yes it is so go get yourself 5 years of experience

Is there literally no reason for someone to buy a sata SSD in 2024. If you want high speed just get an NVMe drive. If you want high capacity then HDDs offer much higher GB/$.

Depends on the board, there’s a few boards that will downgrade the x16 slot intended for the GPU to x8 if you put in an SSD. It definitely happened a lot when NVMe was new. Others disable SATA ports if you plug an SSD into the second m.2 slot, presumably because they’re running it as SATA and not NVMe. This has probably become less common as CPUs have gotten more PCIe lanes.

I remember you can (or could) download the dch drivers then make them "normal" with NVCleanstall.

Sorry but I dont see an option for that, it does allow me to select which components to install, but I dont see one for converting it to a standard driver

/g/ keeps telling me to not use Wayland, but xorg doesn't work well with my multi-monitor setup. Do I use Winblows or just use Gayland?
28 replies and 5 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>100311649
Just use a WM and you sidestep most of the issues with Wayland by seamlessly switching to a Xorg WM when you encounter issues. A DE is just bloatware that forces you to invest yourself into an ecosystem because the overriding DE abstractions force your configs to live there.
>>
>>100319026
>you would build on past work like tearfree and asyncflip.
there's an Xorg fork that implements per-monitor freesync by doing this. there's no technical reason for the supposed impossibility of implementing features that are developed (finished would be extremely generous) on wayland on xorg instead. in fact, pretty much everything new on wayland is also implemented on xwayland and in the common xserver backend. it's just not enabled in xorg (which also doesn't get releases packages despite continued feature development) for ideological reasons.
>>
>>100319063
>in the common xserver backend
*and mesa X11 WSI. IBM and collabora like to portray X11 as dead because they refuse to work on xorg, but the wider ecosystem is probably more developed now than a decade ago. Like redditors post some comical stuff and think that, for example, AMD or Nvidia are going to maintain an explicit synced driver for wayland and not port that work to xorg (in fact it's already in dri3), the deep color management work (that goes way beyond hdr in gaymes) is going to restricted to unstable DE wayland compositors etc. Anything related to serious work is implemented, quietly, for both display servers. No enterprise is switching over to the latest Gnome or KDE just to get a wayland protocol. Wayland missed the bus a decade ago and now all of the features that would make it "the future" have to be implementing on xorg too, because they're standard everywhere else but getting them on wayland requires a much more intrusive upgrade than an xorg bump. So the only things that will end up being exclusive to wayland are niche gaymer things, like low(er) latency compositing.
