Leicafags are an interesting species. This is a thread to try and comprehend the minds of these consumerist retards.Their subreddit, the premier place for Leica fans, has a rule explicitly stating that any photos need to "demonstrate a skill or technique that is incredibly difficult to execute correctly, has not been seen before, or both"All the photos in the subreddit do not fit this idiotic criteria, yet are lauded.99% of the posts there are about people buying gear instead of photos. They care more about being seen with a Leica than actually using it.

I think I'll find a cheap Hektor 135 and maybe a Leitz 35 or a 90 and call it a day on this kit. Maybe some Voigtlander lenses, but the Russar is the only Soviet lens that will ever grace it.

I don't understand. I've been taking photos and videos for over 10 years yet they still suck. I don't know why that is. I get told by family and friends my images are good, but every time I post it on the net there's someone there that says it's awful.Do you all know?(Side note to mods. The pepefrog image is related to photography. It shows him using a camera).
>>4310185Lol okay.
>>4309905Your approach seems to mostly be about you trying to find 'pretty' subjects. This is a purely rational or logical way to try to do photography. Take photos that make you feel something, you have to tune into subtle feelings instead of thinking through what you think 'logically' would be a good subject. Pay attention to how the framing makes you feel before you hit the shutter. Take photos when something clicks with you internally and you're struck with beauty, not when you think 'that would be a cool photo'.I think you're kinda tryharding and overthinking basically. Cultivate sensitivity and clarity of perception
>>4310261Good advice.
>>4309992I would.
>>4310262>>4310261No problem. Adding to this, technically skilled photographers will be able to produce photos that look pristine and have good framing etc, because they have learnt the craft and have good gear. That's the end result of what your approach is, except that I think you're attempts to learn the mechanical side of photography aren't great so far (blurry, bad overediting and stuff). The accomplished photographers who have learnt the technical craft of gear, editing, composition, produce sound photos, but they often seem soulless. Your attempts at learning to take photos in that logical way aren't great or interesting either. Going down that logical crafty path probably is pointless for you then. You can absolutely develop your sensitivity and perception and take great photos that way instead of going down the logical path. This book will teach you how to start developing this - "The Practice of Contemplative Photography: Seeing the World with Fresh Eyes".Hope that's been constructive feedback bro :)

You should throw every lens you currently own, that isn't a 50mm, into a lake. Do not resell them, nobody else should be subjected to using anything other than a 50mm. Buy 3 of the same 50mms just in case.

>>4310251That's a nice one.
I just found out these can be really useful for more than just macro, which I found out that are great for getting a 1:1 ratio on your subject. What I didn't know is something like a 105mm/2.8 also makes an outstanding portrait lens along with even an all-around good prime lens. Also typically it'll be cheaper than a similar fast lens. Is this really the best type of lens for all pictures until you need some kind of zoom?
>>4309483Not quite. A macro lens has better control of distortion especially when you focus closer. Regular lenses are not optimized for that.
>>4309622Because the DoF will be so shallow as to be useless.>>4309623I don't, the aperture gets reduced to around f/5.6 at close focus.
>>4309479What do you mean by 1:1 ratio on your subject?
>>4310147It means you can take a picture of a subject that is the size of your camera sensor and it will fill up the whole frame of the picture.
>>4310147It means the image projected onto the sensor is true to life size, a one to one representation. So for example if you took a picture of a ruler at 1:1 focus, one cm on the ruler will be one cm on the sensor. This of course does not mean it will be 1cm in your image, depending on resolution and cropping and whatever else you may do to the resulting image. Generally considered the minimum for a proper macro lens, despite manufacturers putting 1:2s out there and calling them “macro”.

>>4310122It looks awesome on my iPad color wise. I don’t know why it has black bars. I was playing with a vazen anamorphic 1.8x lens and a Sauri 1.33x an anamorphic lens on my bmpcc 4k before I made it. Maybe I forgot to turn off some setting in resolve, but the image still looks great. I love the grain but YouTube probably killed off the grain.
>>4310143The lens was sharp and clean because master primes are fucking as awesome as fuck but I passed it through the cst into rec709 in cineon film log and then used a Kodak lut to make it look like film (resolve has film look luts that turn stuff in cineon film log into cinematic magic) and then i used the resolve grain plugin to add 16mm reversal grain because I love the way that grain looks.
>>4307835>>4309725>arri viewfinderI just saw this on r/cinematography. https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnbrawley/52914823044/Basically the arri's viewfinder's advantage is that it has "looking room". Everything outside of the blue square isn't actually being recorded but lets the camera operator know what's about to come into shot (booms/props/personnel) and manoeuvre their movement accordingly.(Yes, it's basically just saying that the arri slightly crops the image and the viewfinder shows the uncropped image. Yes you could easily do this in post by applying a 1.x zoom on all footage and plan your shots around that in advance. Camera departments are fickle though. They like using what they're used to)
>>4310204So basically if you shoot opengate you’ll get what the viewfinder sees so you can reframe your image anyway you want but if you do the full sensor you get a crop into the sensor to make sure you get a sharp image because you are just using the middle of the sensor. Or something like that. I can understand cropping into the sensor in camera because doing that in post on a lot of shots can get very very annoying.
>>4310221>but if you do the full sensor you get a crop into the sensor to make sure you get a sharp image because you are just using the middle of the sensorThat's not a thing unless you're talking about a 1:1 cropped readout versus a larger aspect ratio having line-skipping - different to oversampling (taking a high res input and producing a lower res output with a complicated algorithm) which would theoretically just provide the same quality. Arri's are doing the opposite of oversampling; they're upscaling a lower res input into a higher res output.
Have you all actually tried these lenses? They're pretty cool.

Is it truly possible to learn to have aesthetic/creative/artistic (or whatever word you want to use) vision, and intent with your photos? I’ve been taking snapshits sporadically for the better part of 20 years now (pops game me an ae1 in middle school), but I don’t think I’ve ever taken any really great pictures. >picrel, Ken Rockwell sliders applied to mediocre snapshitMy pictures seem to be more, just what I see, essentially just capturing the world as it exists with little meaning or really interest I’d say. Even calling it documentary would be too generous, it’s more cataloguing if anything. Can one break out of this box? Or is creativity like other inborn traits where you can train and practice but there’s a limit to how much you can do with what you’re born with? (/fit/ sisters can relate). I know probably it isn’t the best place to discuss since we’re snapshitters amongst snapshitters here, but surely this isn’t as good as it’ll ever get, right?[EXIF data available.
