What's the best community? If you could just magically wake up already living in the city with the comm of your choice, where would it be and why?Are there any comms that you feel are too far gone and better left given up on to dissolve by their own internal squabbling?
>>10917468Don't use the terminology "meet", just say you invited your friends over. I had a girl do this to me as well, she demanded to know why she wasn't invited (the event had already happened). I told her it wasn't a comm event or a meet and shrugged.Do not apologize, this is actually a good thing. The people I invited over dressed well, were actually into the fashion, and we ended up being our own little splinter faction of the comm and we are very close now.
>>10917545He didn't cheat on her with a comm member, but he always gave out creeper vibes. I wouldn't be surprised if he cheated on her with other women. He only hugged the pretty young girls at meets. S needed to divorce that loser years ago. She drags him everywhere and complains she can't make friends. There's a Tori Amos line, You sign Prince of Darkness try Squire of Dimness, that describes him perfectly.
>>10917571This happened in my comm as well. I invited some girls I knew that dressed well and had similar taste, started arranging private get togethers, and now we're our own little tight knit subcommunity. It takes patience, but if you want a more selective group, your best bet is to be proactive. Reach out to well-dressed sane people in the comm, take the initiative and arrange private events, and keep expanding your circle until you don't need to interact with the main comm much. You can avoid a lot of drama this way.
>>10917571>Don't use the terminology "meet", just say you invited your friends over. Good idea.
>>10917468I'm sorry your comm member is giving you a hard time about this, it's a really cute idea and I wouldn't want some itas who don't match the theme ruining it either. I don't think you should apologise, just say it's a private gathering among friends with a theme. The whole point of comms is to meet people you like and you're allowed to hang out with the people you like, not everything has to be an 'official' meet. You don't have to invite everyone, especially for something as casual as movie night with friends which I assume you'd be hosting at a private place. If you really need an excuse just say you don't want a bunch of people you aren't close with coming to your house.

>>10916958I understand. I have/had this massive crush on this adorable cosplayer in her late 20's. It started when I stumbled across her profile, I'm a content creator and saw she was in my area so I figured fuck it why not shoot my shot and ask for a collab, I even asked her on a date and she very politely turned me down.We quickly became friends though, I shared her my pictures and she called me handsome, she even made me a custom fumo doll which I still sleep next to every day. Hell, I'm even on her private account. Although I genuinely enjoyed talking to her, after a while, it became very clear to me that I would never be anything more than just a casual fan/friend of hers. I'm not in her close circle of friends, I'm not an active member in her community/chat, she would take hours or days to respond, she'd stonewall me when I wanted to ask for more personal details about her life etc. I'm just one of the 50+ guys in her DM's (no seriously, she posted a story about how she got 50 dm's and will try to get back to all of them, lmao)if I tried hard enough I could get into her close circle, but I'd rather not compete with like 5 other people for scraps of her attention, instead of obsessing/simping over her, my energy is just better spent on someone who can make more time for me. I'm still friends with her, and I'll reach out to her when it's relevant, but I'm trying to just stop fawning over her, there was a period where I didn't talk/message her for over 3 months until she reached out, I'm proud of that. My advice to you is that it's okay to be a fan and a part of her community if you enjoy that, but you should eventually move on from being in love with her, like with any female cosplayer/streamer online, you're basically competing with her mods, donators, the several dozen people in her inbox's AND her actual IRL social circle. YES it is possible that as a fan you can eventually wife her, it does happen, but man, It's stiff fucking competition.

You literally just whiteknight for her on the internet for free (and I bet you listen to her bitch about all her problems too, but she doesn't seem too interested in yours) thinking you're going to get pussy in return like a thousand other losers following her.>we both like to drink water and breathe air, we were made for each other... oh her actual interests? Yeah I find those unpleasant and would ridicule her for them if she didn't have a pussy, but since she does they're... le quirky!Jesus.>I wouldn't dare approach milady without her consentYou're too far gone to save, now I'm just looking forward to the whiny woe-is-me greentext 5 years from now about how the mean Stacy used you like an ATM and you never saw it coming. >>10914505I've never actually seen this with a real person. Obviously there's a line, touching or really inappropriate comments are a different story, but I know a bunch of girls who wear slutty costumes and I've virtually never heard a single one complain about ugly guys just looking or whatever, and the few exceptions were told more as jokes about really extreme cases, dudes visibly standing there with boners or really ridiculous looking dudes or whatever. Pretty much every single person I've ever seen actually post or talk about "creepy" dudes staring at girls in skimpy costumes was a girl who doesn't actually wear skimpy costumes, some bulldyke who thinks it's her responsibility to protect all the other girls from the evil that is masculinity or fat/ugly girls who are just coping with jealousy or just straight up prudes who are uncomfortable with any kind of display of sexuality (my ex was one of those) or whatever.

new larp threadNow with 87,45% more polearms and a little bit of hydrophobiaprevious thread>>10813669
>>10917025That sounds like prime hunting ground for the people why might be interested in RP-heavy larp while being underserved by the current offerings. While also reducing the amount of direct competition and making it easier to advertise because you are a different kind of larp. Also I'd be interested what happens if you put a bunch of milsimmers and boffer larpers in a room and close the door. >>10917205I would directly walk up to the GMs to complain that that flail is not larp-safe.
>>10917207Looks good for a first pass through. I'd recommend adding some pictures, not just of the stuff you've posted already, but of other outfits to give a sense of the vibe your going for and to give a broader range of options. People fucking LOVE pictures, it is what it is. A section on accessories could go hard as well, stuff like bags, period appropriate hats, that kinda thing, stuff that makes character distinct even if they're copying the same general kit guidelines you posted.>>10917205I die instantly as a metal flail ball impacts my cranium (not larp safe)
>>10917207Let's give some feedback. My style is to point out everything that does not work so do not be disparaged. It is a good first attempt and with some expanding could work quite well. The document reads less like a costume guideline and more like a kit requirement. Which makes sense if you are from a re-enactment background but for a larper the question is less about which clothes fit the setting and more about what story the clothes tell. So You would do better to explain what "vibes" you want instead of what clothes ou want. Pinterest boards are cliche as hell but they work.I would also have a "ban" list. What clothes would get you kindly requested to not wear that again. A lot of the times the limits tell more about the design goals than the recommendations.I really like that you point to a vendor because that can really help people get ahead and prevent them for looking for a costume on amazon. I'd say you could even expand that and have a list of recommended vendors, acceptable ones and ones you recommend against because they sell trash or are arseholes. Or maybe here are vendors which are good in one category but horrible in another. You may also want to include sources of sewing patterns so people can make their own clothes which happens regularly.Regarding modern clothing. There are probably going to be a bunch of people who are going to thrift and buy modern clothing and possibly modify it a bit. This is especially common with dresses. You probably want to consider where to draw the line with those. same with modern shoes which people are going to wear. Of course neon sneakers are out but what about modern brown boots?
>>10917405Now per categoryThe men's cowboy costume as given is business casual. Jeans, blue shirt and some high-heeled shoes. You probably want to consider being more specific and discussing accessories as well as how to make a great cowboy outfit and not just a basic one.I also miss the middle class townsfolk which didn’t look like either a cowboy or a businessman. What kit should the barkeep or the tailor wear? For the high class also you only give one option when you would be better of either just linking to an article on fashion or posting a couple images and a link to vendors. Also, what is your opinion on people showing up in modern formal wear? For women: Here thrift shopping will happen and you need to focus on what to do with modified dresses. I also really miss accessories. The best advice I could give you is to ask a women how she would assemble a kit and include that advice. For marines: This is obviously a re-enactment kit instruction and larpers are going to run roughshot over it. You can probably get away with "white trousers, blue coat, kepi-like hat", but people are going to thrift shop and modify clothes to get a "marine like" look and the accessories are right out of the window. Are you okay with that? One possible excuse is that it is a remnant so they probably have makeshift and improvised gear. Also, I probably have to bring up Native American clothes and the bruhaha about people wearing those as costume so you probably need to include something about that to stave of the screaming. Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>10917406>>10917405Seconding all of this. The one thing I will say though is that there are always people who will drop MAJOR money on high aesthetics larps, plus reenactors who might want to give something less set in stone a flutter.Definately make a hard line in the sand on native american stuff, as well as tropey banditos eyyy tacos and tequila stuff, as that normally crops up at wild west games.
Less than a month away, time for a generalAnyone going? Got any plans? Any parties planned?
>>10917024I mean Animazement has a long list of all the panels and other events going on that you can take a look at. Dealers room and Artist Alley is also fun. But if you aren't a fan of any of the late night stuff that the con is hosting, and you also don't like drinking, the late night scene probably isn't for you. >>10917081Apparently you can buy alcohol in the convention center now. Haven't been since that change was made, but noticed it when looking at the policies the other night.>Alcoholic drinks are only allowed on the premises after 7PM each evening, and only if purchased from within the RCC from permitted establishments. They have not given up on the family friendly branding, but they seem to be loosening up a bit, or possibly the convention center is forcing them to allow alcohol sales.

Does anybody know what's Arya's real eye color? In every photo she seems to be using contact lenses. What's her natural hair color?
>>10914984She has otherworldly beauty, and gorgeous French facial features. I am admiring of how clean her hair is compared to some people posted on /cgl/. She must have a lot of self-respect.

I'm a near-complete beginner to con culture and the "scene" due to zero exposure to it until recently and I have too many questions swimming around in my head that I need to ask. I've only been to a couple of small ones in my mostly-desolate area and I want to step up to traveling to bigger ones but I'm overwhelmed. Please bear with me.>Do a majority of congoers cosplay? I know it's common, but is it seen as a faux pas to not cosplay?>Likewise, is it seen as a faux pas to wear the same cosplay more than once in a multi-day event, or to not wear it some days?>I've read a lot on this board about "after hours" events and parties that aren't scheduled by the con staff. Do you have to get invited to things like that, or how do people find out about them?>Do cons that don't have a stated sub-demographic (ones that use terms like "fandom" or "pop culture" instead of specifically "fantasy" or "otaku" or something) tend to accept all demographics? Would you be looked at weird for going to something more "western" like SDCC in an anime cosplay, or would you expect to see a lot of them? >Why do some huge cons like Colossal and Dragon seem to place such significance on getting a hotel room onsite as opposed to just being nearby? Surely not just traffic, right?>What's a "gull"? >How do you not get sick every time you go to one? >How do you keep track of scheduling for multiple cons across multiple years? Do you get notified about them? When is "con season"?>If you're partying, how do you deal with inevitable hangovers or crashes? And some more personal questions>If you cosplay, what's normally your budget? Both in terms of time and money. >How do you make friends at a con if you're not going with a group?>How many cons do you go to yearly or on a recurring basis? There are a fuckton I want to see but I'm not sure if my expectations are unreasonable.Thank you for your time.
>>10913014Might be a lot more fun for you then, I've been to a few Euro cons and they were shit. It's not like you walk up to a seller and announce you're going to scanlate. They assume just by the fact that you look or sound foreign that you're going to scanlate. If you look Japanese and either your Japanese is perfect or you can do the entire interaction without saying anything then you should be completely safe. If that's not the case just be prepared that someone may refuse to sell to you - and I'm not saying all sellers are like that but some are.
>>10913158This isn't just about doujins. As a white foreigner who speaks Japanese, when I tell Japanese people I consume anime/manga they often assume I do it illegally and they start to take an automatic moral stance. It blows their mind when I say I use Rakuten eBooks, Abema, Japanese Amazon Prime and so on and do it legally. Or maybe I've just met jerks.
>>10913158>>10913160I'm French, and Japanese people usually know that France is nearly as obsessed with manga as they are so I doubt anyone will assume I read manga illegally. At least the ones I interacted with. Maybe they assume this because the first country they think of when thinking about the West is the US, and anime are way more popular than manga there and for a long time it was easier to find series by pirating them than by actually buying VHS or DVDs or blurays? idk I'm trying to understand.>If you look JapaneseAbsolutely not, the closest to this was when Indians in Japan assumed I was Indian and Pakistanis assuming I was Pakistani. I don't look Asian at all though, and certainly don't look mixed either. and either your Japanese is perfect or you can do the entire interaction without saying anything then you should be completely safe.I have an intermediate level in Japanese, I can do small talk easily but can make some mistakes here and there because I forgot a lot of words and kanji, and I'm not used to talking in Japanese in general. It's not a problem at all when shopping in actual stores but I don't know how conversations tend to go with sellers/fans in cons in Japan. How is it usually, you just say or show which doujinshi you want to buy and you give them your money, or can small talk happen? In small cons in my own country I've made small talk with some artists but Japanese cons look so crowded I have a hard time imagining it.
with Japan being discussed i have to wonder what it's like with how much different the culture isi can't imagine con parties exist there, at least not to the same level
>>10916974cons in japan are trade shows, not for socializing. people stay there during the day and either go home or to a hotel maybe with 1 or 2 people. not to mention a lot of otaku think drinking is a waste of money.
>107 days until Fanime>No vaccines but still have mask mandate in placeDid you get the hotel you wanted? What are your cosplay plans? How are we feeling about this year?

> Did a run of the names of the staff I found on past year's programming guide, got a hit on megan's law list. Probably speedrunning the con to death or get something more out of it.If this is true, then this is a huge deal. Care to drop any hints on where in the programming guide? I'd like to check for myself.
